What is your favorite class so far and the best part of going to college?
One of my favorite classes at UCR was “Topics in Latinx Culture”. It was very interesting to learn about all different aspects of my own culture (Mexican and Chicano) like music, food and holidays and its similarities to other Latinx countries. The best part about going to college has to be the new connections that are made and fostered.
What kind of help did you get from Paly, teachers and RTE?
I have definitely had a lot of help to get to college from many different sources, whether that be in how to apply, support in writing essays, etc. However, my teacher Liz Mueller and the AVID program at Paly really helped me to prepare for college academically. Also, RTE has definitely played a role in my decision to pursue a college degree. I have always been on the track to go to college but RTE’s Mentorship Program has given me extra support and motivation which are always appreciated. Financially, RTE has also helped a lot. I am always going to be grateful.
What are your plans post-college?
After college, I want to have a career in social work and give back to my community. I want to work in the area of social work because I want to help those in communities who have not had the same opportunities to succeed. As well as to find ways to solve the problems or issues that have inflicted the members of these communities. I want to be there to help guide others who may not have had the opportunities that I have had and, hopefully, point them in the right direction.
