Updated February 2026
Q: What was your experience going to Paly?
A: My experience at Palo Alto High School shaped who I am both academically and personally in ways I still carry with me today. Paly pushed me to think critically, manage a demanding workload, and take ownership of my education. The academic environment encouraged curiosity and independence, which helped me grow more confident in my abilities over time. I learned how to challenge myself while also learning how to ask for help and advocate for my needs.
Outside the classroom, Paly gave me countless opportunities to lead, serve, and support others. I founded and served as president of Project Eco, which allowed me to turn my interest in environmental issues into meaningful action and leadership experience. I was deeply involved in community service, completing extensive volunteer work and learning the importance of giving back.
Paly also gave me room to explore new interests and discover passions I never expected, including economics, reading, and academic writing. The balance between rigorous academics and extracurricular involvement helped me develop strong time management skills and a sense of purpose. Most importantly, Paly gave me the confidence to take risks, pursue challenges, and believe in myself as a capable and motivated student, which prepared me well for college and beyond.
Q: Which teachers or administrators at Paly were particularly helpful?
A: I was fortunate to have several teachers at Paly who had a lasting impact on me. Mr. Yonkers was an exceptional teacher who consistently went above and beyond to support his students and foster meaningful learning. Mr. Bloom, though now retired, helped me discover my love for economics and introduced me to a subject that would eventually become my major. Sarah Bartlett reignited my passion for reading through her energy and dedication in AP Literature. Mrs. Harris transformed my relationship with math by making it approachable and empowering, helping me realize that I was capable and confident in the subject and giving me the confidence I carried into advanced math courses in college.
Q: How did you decide which college to attend?
A: I was deciding between the University of Michigan and UC Davis. Ultimately, I chose to stay in California and attend UC Davis, and it was the best decision I could have made. I would not trade the people I have met, the experiences I have had, or the strong community I have built with faculty, students, and alumni for anything.
Q: How did you decide on your major?
A: I took my first economics class during the first semester of my senior year of high school and immediately found it fascinating. I loved how challenging it was and how it pushed me to think critically about the world around me. Since I had never been exposed to economics before, discovering it felt exciting and transformative, and it ultimately led me to pursue it as my major in college.
Q: How has RTE impacted your life?
A: Rise Together Education has been a constant source of support throughout my college journey. Knowing that I have a community invested in my growth has helped me navigate academic challenges, leadership opportunities, and long-term planning with greater confidence. RTE has played a meaningful role in helping me feel supported and encouraged as I continue to work toward my goals.
Q: What type of guidance do you get from your RTE mentor?
A: My mentor Melanie has been an incredible source of guidance and encouragement. She has helped me make important decisions, such as choosing to intern in Washington, DC, over the summer, and has provided thoughtful advice on professional development. She has also shared personal recommendations, connected me with people in the industry I hope to work in, and consistently encouraged me to take advantage of opportunities even when they felt intimidating.
Q: What has college been like for you? Describe your challenges and successes.
A: College has been both challenging and rewarding. Balancing rigorous coursework in economics and math with leadership roles and internships has pushed me to grow academically and personally. While managing these responsibilities has not always been easy, it has led to meaningful successes, including leadership positions on campus, strong relationships with faculty, and a clearer understanding of my academic and professional goals.
Q: What is your goal after college?
A: After college, my long-term goal is to earn an MBA or Executive MBA and build a career in wealth management while prioritizing family, hobbies, friends, giving back, and traveling.
Q: Who are your role models at the moment?
A: Two of my biggest role models are Anya Gibson, my supervisor at my current job, and Dr. Janine Wilson, the Chair of the Economics Department at UC Davis. Both are strong, accomplished women who inspire me every single day through their leadership, work ethic, and commitment to giving back.
Anya Gibson has shown me what it looks like to lead with integrity, empathy, and consistency. She works incredibly hard while always making time to mentor and support those around her. Dr. Janine Wilson is an accomplished scholar and leader who invests deeply in her students and the broader academic community. She consistently creates opportunities, advocates for students, and fosters an inclusive environment. Seeing two women lead with such dedication, intelligence, and generosity has had a profound impact on how I envision my own future.
Q: What advice would you give to your high school self?
A: There is so much ahead of you. Stop stressing so much, trust yourself, and enjoy the journey!
